Message compared to the beating the bearings take everytime the engine fires. I can see that it *could* *possibly* cause the crank to fatigue and *MAYBE* fail a few pwecent(mileage wise) than a no-pulley motor. You do realize how much force is transmitted thru a bearing on either end of the rod when the burning air/fuel mixture is exerting force on it? Then, take that load an concentrate it over the surface area of only half the bearing. Do you really think that the load induced by not having a harmonic balancer is even on the same order of magnitude as these forces. I for one, do not.

Like I've said before, I put my pulley on at 120K, that was almost 2 years and 66,000 miles ago. My motor has almost 188,000 on it now and it is NOT a granny-driven, never see over 3000 rpm motor. I also drove the car for 30,000 mile w/ regular dino-oil before changing to suythetic.

I think you are going WAY overboard on this. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if it were SUCH an issue, of all the hundreds of members w/ pulleys their would be many more engine failures. Seems like there were 500+ members on here w/ pulley last time I searched. Even with you included, I would say well under 1% of any of them have said there is any kind of problem or had spun bearings. 1% is statistically meaningless. I'm sure more ppl have engine damage from knocking, driving with low oil, overheating, etc than from pulley's.

I have ranted on my Kumho's sucking, but that was from direct comparisson from my other tires. And several other sets of tires on the same car, no less. Going around the exact same corner I've taken hundreds or thousands of times on on tires gives me a concrete way to tell the performance difference. You have no concrette evidence to show pulley's damage a motor, and I would venture there is actually more evidence to show that pulleys DO NOT cause damage to your motor.
